Occupation: Poet, journalist, art critic, novelist, and biographer of J. M. W. Turner.
Born in London. Educated at Cheam, Surrey. Married Harriett Furmedge on 7 October 1873. Prolific poetry and prose contributor to many periodicals and newspapers, including Bentley’s Miscellany, Ainsworth’s, Once a Week, Household Words, All the Year Round, Athenaeum, and Chambers’s Journal.
