Siegmund's sister and the mother of Siegfried in Richard Wagner's second opera Die Walküre / Die Walküre (The Valkyrie) in Der Ring des Nibelungen. Richard Wagner based Sieglinde on Signý in Völsunga saga, an Old Norse legendary saga drawn from Germanic legends preserved in the Eddas. This saga inspired much of Richard Wagner's creation of The Ring of the Nebilung.
