The term Æsir refers collectively to all of the gods and goddesses in Ásgard, including those accepted as gods or goddesses, e.g., Loki. However, the gods are divided into two groups, ie., the Æsir, the dominant group, and the Vanir, who were defeated by the Æsir in the Vanir Wars.
